Isko To Launch Nutribun Program Early Next Year

Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso assured Manileños on Tuesday that his administration will remain steadfast in implementing the Nutribun program despite audit reports painting a bleak image of the financial health of the nation’s capital.

Asked by the media how his government will implement the program amid reports of a P4.3 billion cash deficit, the new Manila Mayor said public elementary school students can still expect the program’s implementation.

“Gagawan natin ‘yan ng pondo para maisakatuparan ‘yung commitment natin to address malnutrition for elementary students, (We will make a way to provide funds and to fulfill our commitment in addressing malnutrition for elementary students),” Domagoso told reporters after meeting members of the City School Board on Tuesday at the Manila City Hall.

“I asked them (City School Board members) how many (public school) students are there in the city of Manila. With that, early next year is our target to implement Nutribun),” he said.

One of the new mayor’s programs to address child malnutrition and poverty is to implement a daily Nutribun program wherein the city government would provide nutritious ready-to-eat-meals free meals for kindergarten and Grade 1 public school students every day.

Domagoso said the revival of the program would greatly help thousands of poverty-stricken families in the nation’s capital.
